Datapoint Trinidad English Creole/Tone

The question of whether Caribbean Creoles have inherited West African tone systems is still subject to debate. For Trinidad English Creole, like other Caribbean English-lexicon creoles, it seems safe to say that the accentual system is based on pitch and not on stress (cf. Solomon 1993: 34).
However, disyllabic nouns may have two tone patterns: high-low and low-high, whereby stress is always on the first syllable.
