Nevertheless, there is some use of Papiá Kristang in the pre-school operating in the Portuguese community in Banda Hilir.
Furthermore, in recent times, the community has established classes in Papiá Kristang for children. These classes are independent of the school system and are attended only by a handful of children at this stage. The teachers are fluent speakers of Papiá Kristang who are qualified primary school teachers.
