English is the dominant language in the areas where Negerhollands was spoken in the 20th century. It is also the language the younger generations speak, who do not speak Negerhollands, or they speak a Negerhollands containing many English words (van Rossem & van der Voort 1996: 33). Lots of English words also appear in the lexicon of the older generation, who speak an a bit older and purer Negerhollands.
