Datapoint Singapore Bazaar Malay/ə - mid central unrounded vowel

Like the vowel /e/, the schwa /ə/ is represented by the letter in writing and referred to as “the pepet” in Malay linguistics (Winstedt 1957: 8). Generally speaking, this sound does not occur in word-final open syllables in the speech of most Bazaar Malay speakers in Singapore.
