Kinubi tends to be spoken less among the young generation in cities like Mombasa in Kenya or Kampala in Uganda, and more stable in smaller cities like Bombo, Uganda. In both countries, the Muslims - all Nubi are Muslims - have a stong feeling of identification with Swahili culture and language, which is also widespread outside the Muslim community.
In Tanzania, it seems that all the former Kinubi speakers now speak Swahili.
