Datapoint Lingala/Increasing use

The acquisition of new adult speakers fluctuates with the need for a lingua franca. In certain regions in the Democratic Republic of the Congo and the Republic of Congo this need has recently decreased because of local ethnic homogenization. But other regions still witness demographic shifts to multiethnic urban centers, where lingua francas are needed.
Also, Lingala certainly acquires new adult speakers in the diaspora.
