Saint-Louis is situated in the transitional area between Nouméa and the rural South.
There are some variations at the individual level between people staying in the tribe and its more rural southern surroundings (with a creole closer to the core versions) and those going frequently in the direction of the town. In fact, in the tribe, a koiné between the two tendencies is developing.
