Datapoint Afrikaans/Geographic variation: phonology

There certainly is phonological variation (especially in the vowels) in Afrikaans between different regions, according to Donaldson (1993), though I am not sure if it is more appropriate to call this variation widespread or limited, as it does not concern many different phonemes. Donaldson does mention that "[r]egional variations in pronunciation are not uncommon" (1993: 1).
