Both pikanini ~piginini~biginini and kid 'child' exist in the various varieties of Kriol, although the former seems to be used more by older speakers e.g. in the Victoria River area. For Fitzroy Valley Kriol, Hudson (1985: 8)comments that piginini is understood by older people but not used. Sandefur & Sandefur (1982: 26; 55) have both piginini and skulkid 'school child'.
