Since most Surinamese learn Sranan Tongo either as a first, second or even third language, most adults can speak the language to some extent. But it’s difficult to say whether and to what extent the language is acquiring new adult speakers now. Note however that Sranan is becoming much more widely used in the public domain though usually speakers tend to mix it with Dutch; there is also more activity on the Radio. (Bettina Migge, pc 2011).
