Datapoint Early Sranan/Size of speaker community
By the end of the 18th century, the total population of Suriname (free, enslaved, European as well as African, mixed) is conservatively estimated at some 55,000 persons. We assume that all of these people mastered a variety of Sranan, albeit in varying degrees of profiency and fluency.
