Example 14-87

I'm tired.
I
I
am
cop.1sg
tired.
tired
I am tired.
Comment:
The copula is obligatory with first person singular. It has been argued by DeBose & Faraclas (1993) that in the example above 'm is not a separate copula form. The copula form is obligatory with I and it and optional with all other forms. Also, see the discussion in Green (2002).
