Datapoint Lingala/Focusing of the noun phrase
A highlighter (focus marker) is always used. In the case of subject cleft constructions (It was Pierre who hit Paul), the focus remains in front, as is the case in the declarative. In the case of object cleft constructions (It was Paul whom Pierre hit), the focus is fronted as compared to the word order in the corresponding declarative.
