gunpowder
Comment:
This is probably a word of dual origin. Stefánsson (1909: 229) relates it to English 'powder', but it is also relatable to the Western Eskimo root paula 'soot'. Van der Voort (1996: 184) found the same root in 18th century Greenlandic Pidgin where it also has the meaning 'gunpowder'.
