Example 76-74

adla
adla
other
another, the other
Comment:
The word originates from Eskimo alla or atla 'other'. The <dl> represents a voiceless lateral fricative. When pronounced by Inuit, the syllable division in this example is probably a-dla, whereas in the Westerners' pronunciation <dl> was probably regarded as biconsonantal, and divided accordingly as ad-la.
