Iconic reduplication is relatively common in Afrikaans - cf. also Examples 38, 39, 40 and 41. Strikingly, it very rarely delivers plurals, however. Forms like hordes-hordes ('hordes-hordes, i.e. HORDES of people'), which is a strictly informal usage, are unusual.
